On display here are the national colors of the 3rd MO Volunteers, a replica made in cooperation by Sabine and Jan Hochbruck. The 34 stars are hand-stitched with silver thread, the inscription reads

3rd Regiment
MISSOURI VOLUNTEERS.
Lyon's Fahnenwacht.

The first and third line are written (according to the Anzeiger des Westens, April 1861) in german Fraktur letters, MISSOURI VOLUNTEERS., as an "american" word, in capital latin letters.
The original flag was lost in the battle of Wilson's Creek, Aug. 10th, 1861. The 3rd MO flag in the Missouri State Capitol bears no inscription whatsoever and might be the replacement given to the regiment.
